The Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Plant Garden at Piney Ridge Nature Preserve is an ADA-accessible passive park with a paved walking path, wooden observation decks, and a variety of native carnivorous plants including Pitcher Plants and Venus Flytraps. The preserve is even open seven days a week, 24 hours a day! The Garden is surrounded by a conservation easement held by the North Carolina Coastal Land Trust, which is part of the Piney Ridge Nature Preserve.

The Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Plant Garden is a truly one-of-a-kind place to visit, as it is a collaboration between the City of Wilmington and The NC Coastal Land Trust. The Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Plant Garden is a city park that is open to the public all year, so you can enjoy it in any season! 

The garden is maintained by The Oleander Company, which leases it to the city of Wilmington. A conservation easement held by the Coastal Land Trust protects the grounds. In 2012, Stanley Rehder was honored with the naming of the garden in his honor. He was known as “the Flytrap Man” and worked tirelessly for their protection.

The garden is located at Milepost 24 on I-95 and serves as a home to the FLYTRAP FROLIC! It strives to bring people in touch with the uncommon plants that only grow naturally within a 70-mile radius of Wilmington. This preserve is an absolute must-see location!

The nature preserve also offers a walking trail that is perfect for those who love nature and want to explore the different plant life. The carnivorous plant garden is located within the nature preserve, which is perfect for those who are interested in learning about these plants. This garden is home to over 600 different species of carnivorous plants, which is sure to excite your family.

The concrete walking trail has easily accessible parking, a wooden overlook, interpretive signage, and so much more!
